Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić will lead the final match of the 2026 World Cup between Spain and Argentina, in a striking twist that recalls one of the standout matches of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Vinčić was the referee who officiated the match between Argentina and Saudi Arabia in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, which ended with a surprising 2-1 victory for the Saudi team, marking one of the biggest upsets in the tournament's history.

That match was the last defeat suffered by the Argentine national team in the World Cup, as they continued a series of positive results, starting from the remainder of their journey in the Qatar World Cup, all the way to reaching the final of the 2026 edition without suffering any losses in the tournament.

Fans are eagerly awaiting whether Finchetti's appointment to manage the final will see Argentina crowned with another title, or if Spain will succeed in stopping the unbeaten streak that began after the historic defeat to Saudi Arabia in Qatar.
