Enrique Cerezo, president of Atletico Madrid, has settled the debate surrounding the future of Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, affirming the club's commitment to keeping the player. This statement comes in response to remarks made by Barcelona president Joan Laporta regarding the offer made to acquire him.
Cerezo explained that Laporta is well aware of Alvarez's future, stating: "Joan Laporta is a dear friend, he is a good president, and he knows very well, as you all know, where Julián López... I mean Alvarez, will play next season."
When asked if Atletico Madrid fans would forgive him for his slip of the tongue, he smiled and replied: "In this life, we all make mistakes, look at me with Julian Lopez, you make me nervous, in this life, except for a few things, everything has a solution."
Atletico Madrid's president responded decisively when asked about Julian Alvarez's future, stating: "He is a player for Atletico Madrid, haven't you realized that yet?".
Cerezo also refused to discuss any possibility of the player leaving, even if a foreign club makes an offer, stating: "He is a player for Atletico Madrid, and he will remain a player for Atletico Madrid."
The club president addressed the future of coach Diego Simeone, confirming that the manager will continue with the team, stating: "How many years has he spent here? There are short contracts and eternal contracts, but his contract here is eternal."
Enrique Cerezo expressed his pride in having a significant number of Atletico Madrid players in the World Cup final for the third consecutive time, adding: "This is extremely important, we are happy and proud, and we await the champions."
The club's management is working to strengthen the squad in the coming period, stating: "We are working to sign important players, so that we have 10 or 12 players in the next World Cup final. We have a great team."
Cerezo concluded his statements by discussing Simeone, saying: "He is happy, excited, and looking forward to the match on Sunday."
