Trump insisted on staying alongside the Spanish national team players during the trophy lift, despite FIFA President Gianni Infantino's attempts to persuade him to leave the stage before the official photo was taken. However, the American president declined to vacate his spot, resulting in an awkward situation.
Reports have emerged that the Spanish Football Federation later published on its official accounts a trophy celebration image that completely excluded Trump, while FIFA released another version that was cropped in a way that also did not show the American president, which triggered extensive reactions across social media.
Spain's national team has been crowned the 2026 World Cup champions for the second time in their history, after defeating Argentina 1-0 following extra time in the final match held at MetLife Stadium in the United States.
